The fabric of human history is made up of this unique tapestry we call family. What connects that family is a thread that is stitched into the DNA that makes you and me.
The purpose of The Family Eri (Thread) is to be a living library and archive of and for the family before us, those of us living now and the family to come. In this way we reach back to the past, connect to the present and share with the future who will in turn reach to the past.
My name is Keith Robinson. I am the founder of The Family Eri.
Where did this idea come from?
Back in 1994 my brother and I videotaped our grandparents telling their life stories. Their stories. Their voices. Today I watch those videos and it’s as if they were speaking yesterday.
From that point on a seed had been germinating in my mind as to how to collect and share family history as told by the individuals themselves. Long story short – I woke up one morning with the idea of a shared family website. A place where we can share family history and update our own stories…because one day we too will be a part of family history.
I could not have done this without Sonkarlay Vaye who listened to my ideas, shared my enthusiasm and built this site.
Why the name Family Eri?
I have long been interested in my family history. As I researched my own DNA I found that the bulk of my genetic markers landed me in Nigeria. Eri means thread in the Igbo language of Nigeria.
My hope for you
Own your place in history. You have a story. Tell it here. Let the family know who you are.
